Finance Tax Facts

Property Tax Rate
The City of Bedford's current tax rate is $0.476509 per $100 of assessed valuation. This rate is determined by two components. The first rate of $0.303747 is for Maintenance & Operations (M&O) and constitutes the General Fund Operating Revenue from property taxes. The second rate of $0.172762 is for Interest & Sinking Funds, otherwise known as Debt Service, and is accounted for in a separate fund. This money is used to pay the principal and interest on the City’s long-term debt obligations.

Combined Tax Rate for Bedford Residents
The majority of Bedford’s citizens reside in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District.  The combined tax rate for those citizens is below.

Property Tax Rate Exemptions
The City provides Senior Citizen exemptions of $50,000 and has adopted the over 65/disabled property tax freeze.

City of Bedford's Sales Tax Rate
The State of Texas levies a sales tax of 6.25% on all purchases statewide. The City of Bedford levies an additional 2%, making the total tax rate 8.25% for all goods purchased in the City of Bedford.

City of Bedford's Hotel/Motel Tax Rate
The City of Bedford levies a 7% tax on all hotel or motel stays of less than 30 days. The revenue from this tax is utilized for tourism related purposes.

The City of Bedford also holds unclaimed property valued up to $100 that is presumed abandoned under the provisions of and subject to Chapter 76 of the Texas Property Code. The owner may present proof of the unclaimed property to the Finance Department to establish the owner’s right to receive the property by submitting an Unclaimed Property Claimant Information Form.
