Chief Williams' Letter to the Community

Chief Williams

Dear Bedford Community,

Over the last several months, the Bedford Police Department has undergone numerous positive internal changes. To mark this new chapter, we are unveiling a new patch for the department in the coming weeks.

We have already started to use the new logo and have also updated our social media accounts today to reflect the change. By December, officers will receive their new uniforms sporting the new patches. You’ll also begin seeing the new logo on patrol vehicles in the coming months.

When we started this process, we knew we wanted to incorporate our values of loyalty, honor, and courage. We expect our officers to remain loyal to our citizens and to the calling they serve. We insist that they serve with honor and to live their lives in a way that will never tarnish the integrity of being a Bedford Police Officer. Lastly, we demand they serve with courage to safeguard our citizens, as well as to push change in the community that benefits everyone.

In addition to the values being incorporated, we wanted a clean and modern look that was easily recognizable by our residents and other law enforcement agencies. This patch should demonstrate to the Bedford community that exciting things are happening in Bedford and their police department is at the forefront of these changes. We want to be an inclusive part of this city in creating an environment that is safe and fair for all individuals.

Finally, I want each officer who puts on the Bedford Police uniform to know they are part of something bigger than themselves. They are helping guide us to be the center of everything that is good in policing. My hope is that, years from now, officers will continue to wear the patch with pride for what is being established daily at BPD.
