Requirements

Requested lights that meet the standards established in the City of Bedford Subdivision Regulations Ordinance and have appropriate facilities and locations available, will be installed at the City of Bedford’s expense. The cost of installing an additional streetlight can range from just under $1,000 (with electric service available) to several thousand dollars if additional facilities and easements are required. All requests will be evaluated for efficacy and benefit and prioritized with all other lighting requests. If funds are available, Public Works staff will coordinate with the electricity provider to complete the installation.

All added streetlights will be constructed with the latest light emitter diode (LED) standard fixture and pole assembly. The requestor shall be required to pay any additional charges associated with upgraded poles or equipment.

Staff Review

Public Works staff will review all submitted applications for accuracy and reconcile the proposed installation for compliance with the Subdivision Regulations Ordinance within30 days of receiving the completed application and petition. Any exception or delineation from the ordinance will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Once Public Works staff has reviewed the request and made a decision, they will notify the requestor of the decision and proceed with coordination of the installation, await additional information from the requestor, or the request will be considered closed if there is a failure to meet identified thresholds.
